Family Services has a wide range of prevention services including childhood sexual abuse prevention, alcohol and drug abuse prevention and more.

OUR SERVICES

Stop Child Abuse and Neglect (SCAN)

SCAN utilizes the I Can Tell curriculum, which is a school and community-based program for Pre-K through 6th graders, aimed at reducing child sexual abuse. This free 35-50 minute program breaks down secrecy around abuse by teaching children they can tell an adult if they are feeling unsafe. 

SCAN now also provides sexual abuse prevention trainings for adults aged 18 or older by utilizing the Stewards of Children curriculum

DeafEND

DeafEND is a prevention education program at Family Services, with all of DeafEND’s services being focused on serving the Deaf/Hard of Hearing community, or Kids of Deaf Adults (KODAS). DeafEND provides in school drug and alcohol prevention education, leadership empowerment programming and a week-long summer camp free of charge.

Too Good for Drugs

DeafEND offers a school-based alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (ATOD) prevention education services targeting at Deaf/Hard of Hearing school-aged students, K-12th. DeafEND achieves this by utilizing an evidence–based curriculum Too Good for Drugs that focuses on reducing risk factors, building protective instincts, resiliency, addressing the mental wellness of today’s teens, and effectively increasing their likelihood to remain drug-free by adopting healthy development skills as their own.

TI-DYE Teen Leadership Activities

Teen Institute - Deaf Youth Empowerment program (TI-DYE), is a leadership program for High School Students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing to provide education about healthy development, leadership, and prevention of unhealthy decisions. TI-DYE involves various interactive training activities with the youth to empower youth to be confident and develop the skills needed to become healthy adults and to make a real difference within their environment. 

KODA (Kids of Deaf Adults) Camp

KODA Camp is a one-week overnight camp for youth ages 9 to 15 who are children of Deaf Adults. KODA’s participate in a fun-filled week of outdoor activities while focusing on positive youth development, through team building, leadership, self-esteem, and prevention education activities. Youth have the opportunity to meet other KODA’s, build relationships, and make lasting friendships.

U-Turn 180

The U-Turn 180 program was developed as a prevention strategy targeted to respond to justice-involved individuals to prevent continued criminal behavior due to individually experienced trauma events. There are no other programs in the Montgomery County, Ohio area that are focused on addressing both Trauma Informed Care (TIC) and criminal justice prevention. U-Turn 180 is offered through referrals from the Montgomery County Common Pleas Court/Adult Probation as part of the county’s Intervention In Lieu of Conviction (ILC) program.
