Counseling Services
Family, individual, couple and group counseling is available for persons with a variety of concerns. These concerns may include but are not limited to: individuals or families affected by physical, verbal, emotional, or sexual abuse and neglect; feelings management; communication problems; and phase of life issues.
Services are provided by licensed professionals (clinical social workers and counselors). Home-based counseling is available through the Teen Parenting program and as a part of some of our regular programs. Family Service Association’s Counseling Services promote responsibility and non-violence. Families are assisted to remain intact as well as to support reunification of family members when possible and appropriate. Community Services for the Deaf Community Services for the Deaf (CSD) provides a number of program services, including support and counseling for those who are Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, or are a family member.
For the past 30 years, Community Services for the Deaf (CSD) has strived to meet the needs of Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing communities in the Greater Miami Valley - and today is no different! With our Interpreting Services, alcohol tobacco and other drug prevention programs, and mental health and case management programs, CSD continues to provide a place where individuals with hearing loss can go to obtain services where they know they will be supported, understood and accepted. In order for CSD to widen their support to the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing communities, they have collaborated with many organizations and serve on a variety of committees. CSD has been working with Montgomery County on a Bi-Lingual Sub Committee to recommend policies for local law enforcement in their dealing with an ever rising population that either does not speak English or English is their second language. Problems have arisen in the legal system when officers are called to the scene only to find out that there is a language barrier between them and the people on the scene. CSD represents the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing populations. Some of the recommendations that have been discussed are the training of officers in American Sign Language, availability of interpreters, and also an understanding of Deaf culture. The project is due to be finished by mid-summer. In addition, CSD has joined with the Dayton Foundation and the City of Kettering in their plans for a park renovation that will provide universal access to all who visit. The Dayton Foundation has secured a grant from the Kellogg Foundation to provide the funds for the renovation. Ground breaking is scheduled for late summer with completion to be in the spring of 2010. CSD currently sits on an advisory board that has overseen the initial plans and continues to aid in development and design of the truly unique concept. The park will not only be wheel chair accessible but will also have interpretive signage and promises a fulfilling experience for all. Community Building and Neighborhood Development Family Service Association in conjunction with the communities of Dayton are striving to improve Dayton area neighborhoods through projects such as FAST, Phoenix, Decker Platt and The Big Blue Monster in Mt. Auburn. |
